Restarting your iOS Device

The following instructions will restart your iOS device by shutting it down and then starting it back up.

Step 1. Locate the power button (also known as the sleep/wake button) on the top of the device. On some devices, this might be on top right edge or the top left edge.

Step 2. Hold the power button down for approximately 3-5 seconds, until you see a red square appear with the text "slide to power off." Once this appears, release the power button.

Is the red square and text not visible? If not, press the home button and start over.

Step 3. Tap and hold the red square. Now slide the red square all the way to the right side and release. At this point your device should start to shut down with a small spinning graphics in the middle of the display. Wait for the spinning to disappear.

Is the screen completely blank? If not, press the home button and start over.

Step 4. To power the device up, press and hold the power button again until the Apple logo appears. The device should now start up normal again.
